MAY 5TH OUR FIRST DATE!!!!!

Calgary:well after 2 days of driving and 2 nights of sleeping in the van we arrive in Calgary.we make it in to the Republik for sound check in perfect time. only problem, the booking agent has booked somebody else. i knew this would happen to us at some point but not the first date!! Turns out the fellow in the bar(a long hair named Doug) gets on the phone and starts trying to find us somewhere else to play. we end up at a pub a few blocks away called the "King's Arm Castle Pub" It's a pretty cool little place full of people our age(not old drunks i mean) the owner of the pub says he can't let us play but is sympathetic and starts phoning other venues on our behalf. He finds another pub underneath "Smuggler's Inn." Apparently there is another rock band that is playing all night and the owner says that we could play a set with them if that is ok with the band. We basically high-five and fly down to this bar "Backstreet." It's a tiny but classy place. The band's gear is set up in this "once was" bar in the center of one half of the room.Totally odd. There is a counter completely surrounding where the band plays. If i moved my guitar without looking i could take out a patron's eye!We wait for 2 hours for the band to arrive.Turns out they're skeptical but the singer says we can play 3 songs in the 2nd set.if we suck we have to stop, if all is well we can giver. Time to play arrives and the other band "Curious George" has let us use all their gear.(Thank God we never could have fit everything in the trench we played in!) and we rip through a few songs. Much cheers. I ask if we should play more and the waitress gives us each a beer. I assume all is well. So I'd say it was a success. The pub only had about 20 people or so in it and we sold 5 CD's.Almost everyone there stopped us to say "is that it?!" or "great tunes man, are you coming back?" We say "yes, the Republik, June 9th on our way back!!!" I must stop writing, our van is almost repaired.
