Saskatoon, Saskatchewan- Wash n' Slosh
July 11th and 12th.
by Chris..
So, after a 5 hour drive, we roll into Saskatoon from
E. Coulee. Pull into the Wash for a beer. Hoping to see some familiar
faces from last year, and sure enough, there's Jim, our favorite
Bo-drinkin' bartender. Made it an early night and after a short
visit with our man Barry Shillington, we got a good night's sleep
at Dave's place (Chris's cousin). Next morning, we decided to
meet with Bill Stampe of Cinepost Studios for a short production
meeting re. our upcoming promotional video shoot. Bill turned
out to be a very cool guy. we through some ideas around about
the shoot, ate pizza and got to see some of his previous work.
very cool stuff, by the way. after the meeting, we went by Ultimodo
a super-cool clothes store where we buy our clothes whenever we're
in Sask. These guys are the home of Dr. Wash shirts. great designs,
well made.. (plug, plug ;) ) many thanks to the staff at Ultimodo.
Barry, you're the coolest.
Now, on to the video shoot. we started at 2 pm with
an on camera interview, then load in, soundcheck, and we're ready
to play. The shoot went very well and so did the stand-in lead
guitarist (Steve). we was also a very nice guy and wicked player.
Paul from The Touchtone Gurus said that in high school, he used
to call Steve Master Shredder. We didn't get to hear him really
go off, but he did a great job of playing are stuff. Especially
conciderin' the short amount of time he had to learn it and we
never played with him at all until the camera was rolling. We
tried to steal him, but his girlfriend kidnapped him back before
we could start the reprogramming sessions.
After taping, we had a few hours to kill before our
set. Why go outside now? we started around 10:30, playing to the
usual 20 people, trying to keep the energy up and succeeding.
Took a short break, waited for a few more people to show and got
up to play again. 2nd set was smokin' The people there dug it
and we celebrated the 12 hour Wash N' Slosh Iron Man Marathon
with (surprise!) a tasty beverage. As Dim said in A Clockwork
Orange,"Bedways is rightways now".
The next day was hectic (as we are starting to expect
in Saskatoon. Started of with an interview on an independent radio
show, did some photo shoot stuff, went on a tour of West Coast
Brewery (you, know.. business..) I'd tell you more, but I stayed
in bed. night falls and it's time to rock again.turns out that
Wednesday night is metal night at the ol' Wash N' Slosh. The crown
is leery at first but everything went smoothly. Bill Stampe came
in and got some more shots of us jumping around and sweating.(man
it's been hot!) hung out with the local metal fans until after
closing and hopefully won some over. After that, well sleep time.
What a life, huh? well, it's been a slice, but we're off to our
next destination, Oyan Alberta. What's in store for us this time?
hope it's all good.. Well, it usually is. rock on, kiddies.
