The Kingsknight. Edmonton
Scott is still stressed. He set up this show for us. I gave up rushing to sound checks a long time ago.I can be ready to play in 15 min. or so. They usually ask you to be there at 7:00pm. Sound checking usually starts at 9:00 pm. That's, like two hours of waiting. An hour longer sleep, a longer shower and a stop for coffee. Scott's a cool guy, so instead of arguing, I just make sure we're on time. The rest you already know.
Why am I writing about this crap? 'Cause this is what touring is mostly: passing time. I'm learning that it's best to try and pass this time in better ways. Like sleeping. Gets too old hanging out in a bar all day. There's a new town to see and I'm in a bar talking the same shit or staring at a pull tab machine. Another game I've come up with is rate the washroom. The cowboy bar in Calgary has a phone between the urinals and the sinks. I got to sweet talk my girlfriend while cowboys pissed beside me. I would remind them to wash up. Dirty cowboys.
Tonight's sound guy is Scott's buddy. Norm is cool. The gear is decent. The bar is divided into two, separated by a glass wall. One side is a dance club, the other (our) side is a rock bar. I wonder if the two worlds collide and explosive riots break out. Oh, did I mention that it's .50 cent draft night?
So, what made this show rock? Peopla we met at the Sidetrack Cafe showed up! It was awesome. Vantisha, and Donna as well as Ed and the SuperHoney crew. The waitress that we harrassed at Smitty's, Louise came with her friend Ang. Totally made the night. Made me feel like our time here isn't being wasted. We are reaching some people. Special thanks to our buddy Joe for rearranging his schedule to make it . You rool.
Ripped through two sets hard and had a
blast. Hung out with the djs and he played me some of his favorite
local bands. Some of whom we are going to see at Alberta's Own
This is the last time we will see Scott and Diana on this trip.
Diana made us up a care package for the road and gave us a dragon
to hang in the van to keep us safe. Thank you both very much for
everythin! Great to see you again and we will keep in touch.
