Friday, June 27th- Sunday June 29th 2003
This is the grand finale. The gig we've been waiting for. Outdoor three day/three night festival. 52 bands. The Headstones are here. Fuck yeah!! I've rested my voice enough to start drinking again...
The place is set up awesome. Two semi-trailer stages, beer garden, tonnes of different eat-wagons. No showers though.I went into town and paid cash for one. The rest of my crew saved their money and changed their socks (I think).
The vibe here is totally positive. I haven't seen anything agro at all. Met a bunch of the other bands. Uncle Jimmy from the Ghettoblasterswas the first he was pretty drunk. Old school punk rocker. Obnoxious as all hell. Constantly abusing people. Hilarious to watch. He has turned their tour van into a stage and plays in the band campground for whoever is around.
We arrived Friday night. The first band was already up. Hard rock. Cool man. The beers are disappearing as is my sore throat. We have the night off and tonight the Headstones play. Before I forget, here are my favorites from what I saw: The Agriculture Club. Fuckin' awesome high energy cow punk. Stampede Queen Hard rock as it should be tuff fuckin' band, man. They could kill anyone. They ruled.
I met three of the Headstones which was cool 'cause I dig their band. I didn't talk to Hugh that much 'cause I found him kind of unappproachable.
"Hey Hugh, you're not gonna spit on me are you?"
"Why would I do that?" Annoyed.
I told him they rock, my name and I gave him our sticker. Pretty much it.
I talked to the drummer for a while about the business, what they're up to, their label and stuff. Nice guy. Bass player was also cool. Mellow and friendly. Hugh, I dunno just couldn't talk to him. I don't want to be a pain.
We met Carson Cole. This guy is the coolest rocker ever! Laid back, friendly and totally knows the biz. Funny as all hell too. He's been doing the touring thing for 22 years. Watched his set and this guy rules. My new favorite Canadian rock band! we played after them so we let them use our gear. I'm honoured. Fun show.
Watch the awesome Carson Cole, then it's The Madd Hatter on the beer stage. They are good hip hop with live musicians. Songs about getting laid. Good show. We are up next. Last band of the day 1:15am. Running out of cigarettes and you can't buy any here. Plus the beer tent shuts down at 2am. Lame. I'm not sure how we are going to cope with "normal" life when we get home. Are we going to go through withdrawl? I'm back at work on Wednesday. I hate that part. Depressing as hell.
Our show kicks ass. A bunch of people dancing and reaching up at us. Horrible stage sound buy is doesn't matter it was such a blast. Really, this has been our best tour No problems, no breakdowns, no fighting. Alberta has been really great to us. September we are out there again for a few weeks. Bastard will lose his job. Fuck it, right? What else should we do?
We are on our way home and almost in Golden, B.C. We're stopping in for dinner at a place we played a few years ago. I'm done writing for this tour. Till next time.
