Cactus Jack's Saloon, Kamloops

Many enquiries were made amongst the Kamloopians for a rock and roll slang title for their town. Though I'm sure there is a presence of creativity in that city, none was found in Cactus Jacks. I met the singer for a Lambloops band called Process Blue. Had a mind full of nothing. Perhaps, unlike myself, they have better things to think about. Where do I begin? Okay, first of all Cactus Jacks is usually a Country bar. It looks fantastic. Two floors. It is loaded with cowpoke gear. It is like being in a cooler looking Montana's grill if that is at all possible. And it is. Big stage equipped with a typical underpowered sound system. All of the staff dress as they do in Calgary during the Stampede. Big belt buckles and cow hats. You know what I'm talking about.

The second interesting note is the co-headiner: a wet T-shirt contest. Up to this point, I thought wet T-shirt contests happened in the Police Academy movies. But no, they do happen in real life. Myself, I feel that the whole idea is pretty lame. I could go on about how rock n' roll it is to play with a wet T-shirt contest but I would be saying it just to bond with the cowboy meatballs that were screaming out lame stuff at the girls. Don't get me wrong, I love breasts. It just seems wrong to line them up and cheer for your favorite pair.

At least it seemed the participants had fun with it. All the contestants were volunteers from the crowd. A mere three... Megan the organizer (or pimp as she called herself), wanted 1 of us to do it with them. Chris was going to do it then sadly he declined the invitation to make an ass of himself which I thought was very unlike him. But I said sure, said that there had to be shotz of jack involved. We were getting free beer but no hard stuff. Kind of funny that I dissed the whole thing and then partake. Ironic I know but what do you do. I hate people, but I enjoy socials. Megan gave me a tight white T-shirt and a long black mullet wig. I thought I was sexy as hell, but I never made the second round. The other contestants (four now, as a very drunk gal joined in during the soaking), told me I should have won. My self esteem slowly returned, but my self worth has suffered permanent damage.

All right, how was the show? This is a rock band story ain't it? Matt Silver who used to be with the Village 900am in Hictoria was there. Moved to spamloops to work for Shaw TV. Cool to see him. He hung out till late watching as we got more wasteder. We were hired to play 2 one hour sets. The first set was good, bar had a good lot of people and we were sober. Second set was after the w T-shirt thing and a few to many boozes. Bar not so full after that, guess all the grab asses got there fill hyuck hyuck. I think we did okay cause an old cowboy named Slim told me that I suck and that he was going to rip off my head and piss down my throat. But he really liked the bastard drumming a lot. Overall a good show but a bit of a tough crowd later in the night. Till next time...
