WHO IS JEFFERY? I'm sure many assume that Jeffery is a member of the band. Incorrect. There are a few different ideas concerning the origin of the name. The most common theory, (other than the assumption above) is that Jeffery is the illegitimate son of Mabel (popular Disney cow) and television's talking horse Mr. Ed. The story goes like this; Mr. Ed arrives at Disneyland one night playing up his hot-shot "t.v. stud" routine. He finds the naive local cow, wins himself a night 'o passion, and splits. Nine months later Jeffery is born. Fatherless, unwanted and quite aware of his shameful creation, his inner pain develops into his "fuck you" attitude.
A more disturbing, yet somehow more likely story is this: Jeffery was born on a dairy farm south of Nanaimo, B.C. The farmer, who was new to this whole cow thing having just switched from tomatoes the season before, mistook the cow for a bull. The young animal's personality won the affection of the farmer's family and they lovingly named her Jeffery. Upon reaching maturity, Jeffery was placed in with the bull population. During her first night , she was brutally attacked by the males. You can imagine where "SEZ" comes into place. Gives one shivers just to think about it.
A third theory came to light during a post-gig interview with the band. All band members were present and seemed to be sharing the same trance-like state.
Jai: The name? (pauses) Well, ask Michael.
Michael: Naw, go ahead.
Jai's face seems to lose all expression and his eyes become vacant. In a monotone voice, he continues:
"Jeffery is the earth name of the Dark Lord who gives us instructions concerning the band. We took the name Jeffery Sez because all of our lyrical and musical messages are from him."
His eyes come back into focus and he continues: "We usually don't like to talk about stuff like that. I'm afraid I've said to much already. I'm sorry, but this interview is over."
The last of these stories was most likely some kind of weird inside joke. Then again, perhaps it is just crazy enough to be true!
